Westmoreland Land Trust

The Westmoreland Land Trust (WLT) was formed in 2008.  The WLT works to conserve and steward lands and waters of Westmoreland County that harbor ecological, scenic or recreational qualities to offer a healthier and more sustainable future for all.

__________

The WLT has conserved several parcels of land throughout Westmoreland County, including in Murrysville:

  • For Peter and Victoria Skena Nature Reserve, the WLT acquired the 22 acre former farm in 2009 with PA DCNR* grant funding.  The WLT then transferred its ownership as parkland to the Municipality of Murrysville).  *Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources
  • For the Duff Park Expansion Project, a donation of land by Theo and Pia van de Venne served as a match for the WLT to secure PA DCNR grant funding to purchase 3 other parcels of land.  This project enlarged Duff Park, connected the park's eastern  and western ends, and connected Duff and Pleasant Valley Parks.  The WLT completed this project in 2014 by transferring ownership of all of the parcels as parkland to the Municipality of Murrysville.

On the map the brighter green is Duff Park before expansion;  the olive green is Pleasant Valley Park.

Parcel 1 is the van de Vennes' donation of 49 acres
Parcel 2 is the Yerick parcel, 9 acres
