Murrysville March For Parks

Form a Team, join a Team, or come on your own to the Murrysville March for Parks on Saturday March 30 2019 at the Murrysville Community Center at 3091 Carson Avenue.  Returning this year ... DONATE HIGH QUALITY BIKES AND BIKE EQUIPMENT by March 20 for a Pop-Up Used Bike Shop at the March to support the Westmoreland Heritage Trail!

What is the March For Parks?

The March For Parks (MFP) is an annual event in late March organized by Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation, to have fun while raising funds for park improvements and trail expansion.  The Murrysville location of the MFP, initiated in 2014, focuses on the construction of the Turtle Creek Rail-Trail.

The funds raised and the community support shown at the Murrysville Marches have significantly helped Westmoreland County secure grant funding for construction of the trail.  Funds raised are used to match state and foundation grants, and to leverage funding from a variety of other sources.

 How does the MFP work?

Participants collect donations before the March, either individually or as a member of a Team.  Many people form Teams by organizing friends and family, school/sport/place of worship/work or community groups, or in memory of a loved one.  There is friendly competition for recognition as a top fundraising team.  Donations may be mailed in, or collected on the morning of the March.  Many Teams wear Team T-shirts for their Team photo that will be taken at the March!

Are there opportunities to sponsor the March?

Absolutely!  For businesses seeking a high value promotional opportunity, sponsorship of the March is a way to build substantial goodwill at low cost. Sponsorship is also suitable for an individual or family wishing to make a larger contribution. Those interested in receiving publicity or public acknowledgement of sponsorship are encouraged to contact Marty McGuire at marty1254@comcast.net or (724) 875-4334 as early as possible.

What happens at the Murrysville March?

This is a fun event with an optional walk along a trail.  Registration starts at 8:30 AM.  There will be coffee and a light breakfast, and for a contribution of $25 you are welcome to a MFP T-shirt.  There will be lots to see and do for adults and for children, many surprises, a Chinese auction and a raffle.  Lunch will be available following the optional walk.

Is it necessary to be part of a Team?

It's not necessary to be part of a Team.  Although organizing or joining a Team is a lot of fun, though, many people prefer to come on their own.  All are invited, too, to join the MTA Team.  Be sure to visit the MTA table!

How will funding from the March be used?

MFP participants can specify how their contributions should be applied, from a range of choices.  Many at the Murrysville March specify construction of the Turtle Creek Rail-Trail.  Other choices have included Land Acquisition and Trails, Cedar Creek Park Improvements, Mammoth Park Improvements, and Twin Lakes Park Improvements.

If I miss the March, can I still make a donation?

Absolutely!  If you miss the March, but would still like to make a donation, please send a check made payable to "WCPRCAB"* to:
